The Northern Rivers Community Foundation has been making a real difference in the lives of young people and the disadvantaged across the Northern Rivers since 2004 and we need your help to continue this vital work.
In 2011, the NRCF funded five projects that empower, support, engage, or educate children and young people in our region with another ten projects set to begin in 2012.
2011 projects supporting children and young people:
The Byron Youth Service conducted a friendship forum and workshops during youth week to promote enhanced connections amongst our young people and between our young people and their elders.
A grant to the Pathways Foundation enabled the organisation to purchase a camp trailer with kitchen facilities, storage and equipment for setting up camp in bush locations, integral to Pathways work in providing rites of passage for boys aged 13-15 years.
The Ballina Byron Family Centre was able to operate family fun days and relationship–strengthening activities for isolated families and ‘at risk’ young people throughout the year with a $3000 grant.
Parents and carers of children with disabilities who attend the Byron Shire Early Childhood Intervention Service had the opportunity to attend a key word signing workshop to help them communicate better with the children in their care thanks to a $1905 NRCF grant.
Finally, regular readers of the Ray White Newsletter will remember the story about the 15 young performers from Spaghetti Circus that had the opportunity to learn from the best in the business at the national Circus Festival in Tasmania thanks to the NRCF.
Thanks to the generosity of donors in our community, in 2012, the NRCF will provide funding to twice as many organisations delivering projects for children and young people across the Northern Rivers.
Recipients for 2012 include The Uncle Project (pictured), the Pathways Foundation, Ballina District Community Services Association and the Centre Against Child Sexual Assault. We look forward to keeping you informed about these projects throughout the year.
Please can help us continue our work in supporting organisations that service our youth and the broader community, by making a donation to the NRCF Christmas appeal. Donations can be made at www.nrcf.org.au. On behalf of our entire community, thank you.
