Local Amenities to Consider When Buying Property

By Darren McCoy

There’s a lot to consider when buying a home, from the location to the type of property you’re after.

While the house itself is important, don’t forget to look outside the parameters of the property when it comes to making a decision.

Local amenities can be incredibly useful for you and your family, and they could even help with a home’s value should you decide to sell.

Making a splash

Whether you’re an avid early-morning swimmer or have children who are learning how to confidently tackle the water, a local swimming pool can be a very useful amenity to have nearby.

Those looking for real estate in Sydney may be drawn to properties near the North Sydney Olympic Pool, for instance.

There are lap pools and a spa as well as a gymnasium and sauna, all set against the gorgeous backdrop of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

You might also find it a preferable option to having your own pool, given you won’t have to manage regular maintenance yourself!

Getting cultural

If you’re placed in the middle of the city or in a creative suburban area, chances are there’s a gallery or museum nearby – or even more than one!

Public galleries and museums are useful to have around for your own enjoyment as well as to entertain the kids, and locals are often able to gain free entry.

With exhibitions rotating on a regular basis, local galleries can be fantastic for art aficionados who want to get a regular cultural fix without having to journey halfway across town.

A breath of fresh air

When choosing which real estate to buy, it’s important to consider more than just brick and mortar amenities.

Local parks are a great place for runners, people with children and dog owners!

Having access to a local park can help you unwind at the end of the day and many local councils put on events at these spots, such as movie screenings or concerts.

The Australian Department of Health recommends that adults are active on most – if not all – days of the week, so having a park nearby can help you keep fit and healthy without eating too much into your schedule.

Consider what local amenities are useful when buying a property so your family home is the best it can be.
