General Information

Byron Bay Community

Byron Bay is the eastern most point of Australia ’s mainland on the New South Wales Far North Coast. It is famous for its alternative lifestyles and attracts people from all walks of life. Byron Bay has a fantastic and diverse range of people that make the town a vibrant and interesting place to live. Known mainly as one of Australia’s top tourist destinations the town enjoys five beautiful unspoilt beaches together with other natural beaches tucked away in near National Park. Some of the most popular pastimes are learning to surf, dining out, watching the world go by at one of the local cafe’s, scuba diving, whale watching, the famous lighthouse walk, local markets and a wide range of shopping. Byron is home to a mixing pot of people and is a world class holiday destination with its magnificent beaches.

Byron Bay has a subtropical climate  with the cooling coastal winds in summer a relief. Cape Byron is a 107 metre high rocky promontory at Australia ’s most eastern point. It protects Byron Bay and the Cape Byron lighthouse stands tall upon its top. Its light beams more than 40 km out to sea to warn sailors to beware of the treacherous coastline.
